Summer is almost here, along with a fresh new crop of home decor trends. From the return of color to a breezy coastal vibe, there’s a little something for everyone this season.
If you’d like to update your home with a fresh look for the warmer months, in today’s post I’m taking a look at the summer 2024 decor trends, focusing on the looks I think will have staying power well beyond this year.
But first — even though I love talking about interior design trends, I always recommend decorating your home in a way that makes you happy.
So don’t feel like you have to embrace these ideas if they don’t resonate with you or make sense for your style of home. I definitely don’t adopt every new home decor trend that comes along.
That said, I do think it’s helpful to keep up with the current decorating trends and design styles, because it expands your awareness of what’s out there.
I know when I look at our home with a fresh perspective, I’m often able to use pieces I already own to create a brand new look without spending any money.
Whether you want to add a light touch of seasonal décor here and there — or fully embrace one or more of the summer decor trends, these ideas will help you add a light, fresh look to your home.
1. Relaxed coastal style
The first summer 2024 home trend is relaxed coastal style. With a focus on light and airy spaces that reflect the ocean and beach, coastal style interiors are a perfect fit for summer.
I’ve found that since I started decorating with modern coastal style, our home is essentially summery all year long, which means I don’t have to do a lot of seasonal decorating.
By sticking with a color scheme that reflects the ocean, sand, and sky: crisp whites, neutral hues, and fresh blues — everything flows easily from one season to the next.
Coastal style spaces typically incorporate natural elements such as wood, wicker, and linen, as well as a color palette of soft blues, greens, and sandy tones.
Coastal style interiors often feature clean lines and simple yet elegant design, with a focus on comfort and relaxation.
Although there are many versions of coastal style, my favorite is a chic mix of relaxed beach house, coastal grandmother, and Nancy Meyers style. (Here’s my post sharing my favorite Nancy Meyers interiors.)
However, any version of coastal decor or beach house style which incorporates things like woven elements, light woods, baskets, natural fiber rugs, and easy-care slipcovers in fabrics like cotton and linen, lends itself perfectly to summer decorating.
2. Summer stripes
The next summer 2024 home decor trend, which ties in beautifully with relaxed coastal style, is stripes, a classic summer trend that will never go out of style.

Whether you’re decorating a living room, bedroom, or any other space, adding striped pillows, throws, or rugs will infuse a timeless style and appeal to your home for summer and beyond.

3. Color trend for summer 2024: a touch of blue
Tying in beautifully with the rest of summer home decor trends for 2024, a color palette based on soothing, timeless blues will take center stage for summer 2024.
If you saw my post on the Top Home Color Trends for 2024, you know that some version of blue was on almost everyone’s “Color of the Year” list.
Paint companies and interior designers alike are loving blue hues this season, which is wonderful, as I can’t think of a color that more perfectly reflects the relaxed feeling of summer than blue.
Blue, in all its shades, is perfect for adding a touch of summer to a neutral room, family room, or a more formal space, perhaps via a piece of statement artwork, accent pieces, or rugs.
Since shades of blue have been shown to reduce stress, increase productivity and creativity, and generally make us happier, it’s the perfect hue for summer home decor, indoors and out.

4. White walls
The next home decor trend for summer 2024 is white walls.
White walls and ceilings bring a fresh, modern look to any space, creating an open, airy feeling and reflecting natural light to brighten both large and small spaces.

A light neutral wall is the perfect backdrop for colorful pieces of furniture or artwork, making it easy to redecorate as the seasons — or your tastes — change.

5. Ottomans
The next trend for summer 2024 is one of my favorites: the use of ottomans throughout the home. Ottomans are perfect for summer decorating because they lend a softness and easiness to any space.
I especially love the look of an ottoman in place of a traditional coffee table.
Ottomans offer several advantages over traditional coffee tables. They can be used for extra seating, offer comfortable and versatile space, and are easy to move from place to place. Best of all, they allow you to put your feet up and relax!

With the addition of a tray, ottomans are also an efficient way to keep items such as magazines, books, and remote controls organized, yet accessible.

6. Organic modern decor
Natural elements are everywhere in 2024, and materials like bamboo, jute, and seagrass are making a big comeback this summer.

Biophilic design, which incorporates elements of nature such as indoor plants, natural wood, and stone accents, is becoming more popular with each passing year, and is especially relevant for summer decorating.

Bohemian or boho style, in all its forms, is a strong trend for summer 2024, thanks to its global, textural approach to home decor and design.
Think Moroccan style rugs, macrame wall hangings, woven light fixtures, and lots of plants.
