What to Hang Over the Fireplace

I like using a large mirror over our fireplace to bounce light around the room.

I’ve had this mirror for ages!

It’s hung in all three houses we’ve lived in.

I like the contrast the black frame provides and the gold details dress it up just a touch.

It gives my space that Ballard Designs look that I love.

AnnMarie and I found this gorgeous wreath at HomeGoods.

AnnMarie took it home but it didn’t work in her house, so I was more than happy to buy it from her!

I knew it would look great hanging on top of this mirror.

I love the mix of greenery and its relaxed and airy look.

Here are some variations of the same fireplace using the same mirror and wreath.

The white milk glass bud vases pair nicely with the topiaries for a symmetrical look. I shared more of this room in this spring home tour.

Hydrangeas are another simple and affordable way to add some color to your home.

How to Decorate the Mantel for Spring

I tend to prefer a somewhat simple and traditional style on my fireplace mantel.

Two groupings on either side of the mirror with some varied height are all it takes.

On the right-hand side, I started with the tall, white, pressed-tin vase.

I found this in Hobby Lobby.

Then I just topped it with a large faux boxwood ball.

I like to use varying heights, so next, I added this black pedestal clock.

I’ve had this for a while, but originally found it in Kirkland’s.

There’s a design principle that recommends using odd numbers of elements in your groupings, so I added a third item to this side of the mantel.

I wanted it to be lower than the other two pieces.

This green, moss-covered orb was the perfect accent.

On the other side of the mantel, I added two black, wooden pillar candle holders.

I have a weakness for them.

I love finding ones with different shapes and textures and mixing them!

They’re topped with some plain white flameless candles.

And for a third item to vary the height and to bring some green onto this side of the mantle, I used myGreen Tuscan Vase.

Using a combination of textures can add some visual interest to your fireplace.

What to Put on a Fireplace Hearth for Spring

We don’t have a raised hearth, but I’m so in love with how it looks since we re-did the marble surround!

You can check out how the chalk paint is holding up after two years and see the before pictures here.

Decorating a flat hearth can feel a little challenging, can’t it?

I’ve found that keeping things simple is the key.

A fireplace screen is a great way to add some visual interest to your fireplace’s hearth area.

My screen is a little ornate with iron scrollwork.

There are so many styles and finishes of fireplace screens available on Amazon that you’re bound to find one that coordinates with your home’s style.

You can also add decor to one or both sides of the fireplace.

Some pillar candles on a set of substantial-looking pillar candlestick holders can add some height.

If you still use your fireplace during the cooler temperatures of spring, you may want to use something that’s more heat-safe.

An urn or a large bucket filled with faux greenery or spring stems is another way to add a decorative accent.

Or maybe a pair of stools with baskets of faux greenery on top?

If you have a wood-burning fireplace, you can never go wrong with a set of attractive fireplace tools to add some height.

Another great idea for a fireplace hearth is to fill a large basket with a variety of throws.

A wood crate would work well for this too!

After all, it doesn’t matter what time of year it is: sometimes it’s nice to get cozy with a throw.

You can even fill the basket or crate with throw pillows with a spring motif.

Whether you choose to display some blankets or pillows, they will add some softness to your hearth.

Here’s a full view of the entire fireplace, in all its springy and summery glory!

But these colors would work for both seasons, don’t you think?

I’ve had several people on Instagram asking where I got my curtains.

I found them about four years ago at Target and they don’t sell that pattern there anymore.

I’ve linked some similar patterns for you below.
