Atlanta Apartment Tour - Affordable Home Decor - Poor Little It Girl (2024)

People ask all the time, “Why did you and Adam move from DC to Atlanta?” And really, there’s no one particular reason. We wanted cheaper rent and to live in a city where real estate pricing wasn’t as ridiculous as Washington DC. We also wanted to be closer to family and friends. Plus, both working from home, our little 700-square-foot apartment wasn’t cutting it…we needed more space so we didn’t kill each other.

So now, fast forward, we’ve been living in Atlanta for almost eight months (crazy) and y’all, I love it. From the food to all the activities (to the addition of our newest family member Bowie) I am hooked on southern life again. So let’s take an apartment tour, shall we?

Atlanta Apartment Tour: Affordable Home Decor Inspiration

I will say though, I was totally tired of our old home decor from our DC space. I dreamt of a space that reflected our personal style but didn’t cost an arm and a leg. If you’re like me, listen up! It doesn’t have to be all fancy designer pieces to spruce up your living quarters.

I wanted to share a few tips I’ve learned along the way on how to give your space a makeover without draining your wallet. In this apartment tour, you’ll see how a gallery wall and storage solutions make this place feel like a home. So let’s get started on the easy ways I’ve transformed our Atlanta apartment into a comfortable and stylish oasis.

Start with a Plan

To make the most out of our Atlanta apartment makeover, it was important to start with a plan. Think about the overall style you want to achieve and the areas of your home that need the most attention. Whether you’re going for a minimalist look or a more eclectic vibe, having a clear vision will make it easier to stay focused and make informed decisions.

Additionally, consider setting a budget and a timeline for your project. This will help you prioritize and avoid overspending. With a solid plan in place, you’ll be well on your way to creating a space you’ll love.

Invest in Key Pieces

To truly elevate your apartment makeover, it’s important to invest in key furniture pieces. While your budget may not allow for a complete overhaul, splurging on a few statement items can make all the difference. Consider pieces that are both functional and stylish, such as a comfortable and chic sectional sofa or a chic bar cart. These items will serve as the foundation of your design and can easily be dressed up with more budget-friendly accents.

Add Some Greenery

Now that you’ve got the foundation of your apartment makeover laid out, it’s time to add some life to your space. Adding some greenery to our Atlanta apartment instantly brightened up the room and give it a fresh, inviting feel. Not only do plants enhance the overall look of your living space, but they also have some health benefits – they can even boost your mood and productivity.

Luckily, adding plants to your apartment doesn’t have to break the bank. Check out your local nursery, home improvement store, or even grocery store for affordable options. I love the one larger plant and then some fresh flowers scattered around the living areas. If you’re short on space, hanging baskets or wall-mounted planters can add a touch of green without taking up much room.

If you don’t have a green thumb, there’s no shame in buying faux plants either! I love them and like to use a fix of fresh and fake flowers around the house so I get the greenery feel without the upkeep.

Get Creative with Storage

If you’re living in a small apartment, you know how valuable storage is. So think of creative storage solutions to add some character to your space. For example, use a wire basket to store blankets. Or get a TV console with plenty of shelves and space to display photos and keep things organized. It’s all about finding a mix of style and function.

Create a Gallery Wall

When it comes to decorating, walls are often an afterthought. But did you know that a well-curated gallery wall can transform the entire look and feel of a room? It’s true! Gallery walls are a fantastic way to add personality to your space without breaking the bank. Plus, they’re easy to create and customize to your own unique style.

Start by collecting artwork that speaks to you – this can include everything from paintings and photographs to posters and prints. The key is to mix and match pieces that have a cohesive theme or color palette. Once you have your pieces, experiment with different layouts on the floor until you find one that feels balanced and visually interesting.

When it comes time to hang your gallery, keep in mind that spacing is key. Leave at least two inches between each frame so that each piece can be appreciated on its own. And don’t be afraid to mix up the frames themselves – using a variety of frame styles and colors can add visual interest and depth to your wall.

By starting with a plan, investing in key pieces, adding some greenery, getting creative with storage, and creating a gallery wall, you can give your living space a stylish and comfortable makeover on a budget. Remember to stay creative and experiment with different pieces and styles to make your apartment truly unique.
